Even though she is of Vulcan decent, Mia Gan-An'War represented the true Romulan soldier. After she joined the Tal Shiar, she became one of the best the Romulan Empire had to offer.
Just before the Battle of Wolf 359, Mia Gan-An'War and her twin brother, Tash Gan-An'War, were captured and being extradited aboard the Starship Hemingway. When the ship of attacked by the Borg, Ensign Alex Garrett disobeyed orders and released Tash and Mia Gan-An'War in time to abandon ship. From that point on they pledged their loyalty to him Alex Garrett went on to become the founding members of Team Helix.
By military standards, Mia Gan-An'War is the only team member who qualifies for command. Her loyalty to Alex keeps her in the second officer position. She tends to guide Alex through his decisions when needed which proves the that 'behind every a good man . . . '
