- History: Designated as an "Escort", the Katana-class was commissioned as a direct result of the first Borg attack on Sector 001. Sleek, agile, and powerful the Katana-class was built at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards in close conjunction with the Defiant and Intrepid development teams. Constructed under the watchful eye of then-Commander Alexander Dimitri, Chief Designer for the Katana project, the Katana incorporated many of the Federation's newest technological advancements. Currently, there are two Katana-class vessels on active duty.
